At the end of 2013, Vietnam will have 18 major lubricants blending plants with a combine capacity of 396kt/year. Castrol BP Petco, a joint venture streamed in 1997, is the largest blending site in the country with the capacity of 50kt/y, followed by a newly established Japanese firm, Idemitsu, with the capacity of 35kt/y.

Sales & Market share
Castrol BP Petco in 2012 maintained its leading position in Vietnamese lubricants market, the venture controlled around 22.1% of total sales, well ahead of second ranking Petrolimex. Shell, Total and Chevron are all mid-tier players in the market.
Foreign players account for nearly 41% of total sales. Castrol BP Petco maintains a well-established position in the transportation segment, particularly in four-stroke motorcycle oils. BP remains the leading lubricants marketer in Vietnam overall, reflecting its strong presence in the transportation segment.
Distribution Channel
The consumer segment is dominated by DIFM (Do-it-for-me) distribution channel, with the sales of both PCMO and MCO conducted almost exclusively through DIFM outlets. In MCO segment, the most popular type of outlet for oil changes are motorbike repair or spare parts shop, followed by motor washes.
PCMOs are sold mainly through garages and car dealerships. International operators have an advantage in this segment due to global OEM partnership to gain access to maintenance garages.
Red River Delta Region covers: Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen.
Northern East and West: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Son La, Lai Chau, Dien Bien.
Southeast: HCM, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba ria vung Tau, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc.
Mekong Delta: Tien Giang, Long An, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Can Tho, Dong Thap, An Giang, Vinh Long.
