In the recent review, Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) maintains their rating on Vietnam Market in which they decide not to put Vietnam into the short-list of candidates for upgrade reviewing to Emerging Market.

The rumors about Vietnam being upgraded to Emerging Market verified by MSCI started from the last quater of Y2017. Vietnam, however, failed to meet all requirement of MSCI's standards in two consecutive reviewing sessions. It seems that Vietnam should make more efforts in order to qualify all MSCI's standards for its upgrading.
